A disused trolley bridge in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, became a garden partly because tearing it down cost too much.

When the trolley line closed, the old bridge became what a 1958 town history called an "eyesore". It was too expensive to destroy and it carried a water main, so local resident Antoinette Burnham proposed planting it as a garden. It is now the Bridge of Flowers, a seasonal footbridge covered in plants.
