Nobody migrates into or out of the world as a whole, so births minus deaths is all of its change, and the three counters add up. It assumes those rates still hold; it is not a count, and a newer estimate will replace it.

Why not the published growth rate? The World Bank also publishes a growth rate for 2025, 0.91% a year (2.37 people a second). It is a separate series and does not exactly agree with births minus deaths (2.29 a second), so the clock uses births minus deaths for all three counters and they add up.
