Game summaries
Week 1: at Detroit Lions
Despite starting the game in a 21–0 hole, the Saints outscored the Lions 30–10 in the second half and overtime. However, they were unable to successfully complete the two-point conversation in overtime and they started 0–1 for the second consecutive season. The most controversial moment of the game came when the Saints recovered a strip-sack fumble and returned it for a touchdown only to see it negated when Jared Goff's backwards throw was ruled an incomplete pass.
Week 4: vs. Atlanta Falcons
This marked the Saints' largest home loss to the Falcons since 1999.
